Welcome Message

† Ave Maria!

Welcome to the Namyang Shrine of Our Lady.

The ground on which the Namyang Shrine of Our Lady stands is a place of martyrdom.
Until their final breath, the martyrs held the rosary in their hands, entrusted themselves to Our Lady, and prayed. Inspired by their deep love and devotion to Mary, passed down from the time of persecution, and having witnessed how, after the apparitions of Our Lady of Fátima, the grace of the rosary contributed to the fall of communism and the reunification of Germany, we felt that we, too, needed a place in this land where we could entrust ourselves to Our Lady and ceaselessly pray the rosary for peace.

For this reason, on 7 October 1991, the Memorial of Our Lady of the Rosary, the martyrdom site of Namyang was solemnly consecrated to Our Lady and proclaimed a Marian Shrine of the Holy Rosary dedicated to prayer for the peace of our country. In his homily at the Mass of consecration, then-Bishop Nam-Soo Kim, Bishop of Suwon, said:

“From now on, Namyang is a Marian shrine.
Whenever you hear ‘Namyang’, remember Our Lady and come here to pray to her.”

From that moment on, the Namyang Shrine of Our Lady has taken its place in the hearts of those who love Our Lady as the home of the Mother. The paths leading here have been worn smooth by the steps of those who come to pray the rosary for peace. On 25 March 2015, it was designated as one of the “Twelve Stars in the Crown of the Queen of Peace,” offering continuous Eucharistic adoration for peace.

In May 2021, on the 30th anniversary of its consecration as a Marian shrine, the Namyang Shrine of Our Lady was chosen as one of 30 Marian shrines around the world to lead, together with Pope Francis, the worldwide Rosary Marathon for an end to the COVID-19 pandemic.

At the Church of the Shrine, dedicated to the prayer for the reunification of Korea, Holy Mass is offered every day at 11:00 a.m. (except on Mondays).

Mother Teresa once taught us to pray to Our Lady in this way:

Mother of Jesus,
Mary, mother of all people,
we come to you
with the heart of a child.
Though we are no longer children,
we long with all our hearts
to become children of God.

Even if you are no longer a child, come to Namyang with the heart of one.
Our Lady, our Mother, will welcome you with joy.
